AltX focuses on real estate-backed loans because the debt investments are secured over real property and provide returns. These investments have historically not been available to most wholesale investors. Real Estate loans can provide good diversification for investment portfolios with monthly income returns.

Secured debt investments are the first to be paid (both interest and capital), ahead of any other participant in the property or project. While this means that debt investors forgo upside above the agreed interest rate, what they get in return is 1st ranking on the asset backed security and priority of interest payments.
